I had a great conversation with a coworker yesterday. He had a deep questioning of what is he doing at our current job if all his work ethic can make him more somewhere else. This may have been my fault as I told him the new job I’m leaving for is paying a great commission. But I didn’t really mean to, I just want to be honest and let people know that for the same work, you can definitely make more somewhere else. I also gave him the flip side, if you want to grow knowledge and continue to enhance your skills at a brand then there’s no problem staying at a place for less money. I didn’t necessarily advise him on making any moves, but I had to give him an objective outlook of what his goals are and what he wants out of a job. I also had to make it clear that it has to be a selfish decision. At the end of it, it’s what’s important to oneself to pursue what their dreams are regardless of what peers and managers have to say about it. I’m currently being treated pretty petty at the moment cause I’m leaving but my manager doesn’t pay my bills and he’s not going to watch my son. So I have to do what is best for me and my family. This is exactly why I preach business should never be personal. It’s business.
